AVID Acutus Reference SP

AVID HiFi

MISSION STATEMENT: "The Truth, nothing more, nothing less"

Since 1995, our uncompromising design and manufacturing approach, ensures the finest products available today. Modern manufacturing facilities, state-of-the-art computer design technology and large investments in materials research have turned bygone phonographs into leading-edge technology. With other mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic equipment in development, AVID is a growing force throughout the audio market with a reputation for being "Closer to the truth".

Born from impatience with unjustified hi-fi hyperbole, we invested in two decades of developing a range of genuinely innovative engineering solutions to solve some of hi-fi’s enduring challenges.

Spawning a cult-following, AVID is now recognised as one of the premier hi-fi manufacturers in the world.

From a manufacturing base in Kimbolton, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, AVID products are designed and constructed for a world market. AVID engineering expertise is respected globally. Consultation, design and manufacturing services have been applied by other premier companies within the audio, automotive, medical and military industries.

Our precision and accuracy extend to every aspect of our business, from state-of-the-art CNC machines, accurate to within a few microns through to the hand-selected capacitors utilised in our leviathan power suppliers.

Each and every component has to pass rigorous inspection before being assembled and tested. Manufacturing tolerances are so tight that all parts are interchangeable with other units, unlike other companies that have to match parts, AVID manufacturing consistency produces perfection in both performance and reliability.

Investing in AVID gives you leading edge technology, performance and reliability from a company with a solid background.

Welcome to the 21st Century of vinyl replay.

Acutus Reference SP Turntable

The product that launched the AVID brand, over a decade ago, onto the world hi-fi scene was the critically acclaimed Acutus turntable. For the many experts and enthusiasts who have subsequently lived with this turntable, it was the start of a journey to reconnect with their music collection. Time, however, marches onward and a decade is a long time in the life of an engineering company.

It was decided to lift the bar higher still – to apply the accumulated knowledge of a decade of development and lessons learned.

The resulting turntable is now available…the Acutus Reference. The Reference provides not just a subjective but an immediately obvious lowering of the noise floor; extension of both bass and treble responses and a significant dynamic improvement.

The sense of realism needs to be experienced to be appreciated – something which we are happy to arrange for you with our exclusive world wide dealer network.

…So enough puff. What are the actual differences between the Acutus and the Acutus Reference?

The first, and perhaps the most influential, is the power supply. A full 1kVA is on tap. This supply, itself developed over three years is the most stable, linear supply we’ve ever experienced. The Advanced DSP control of the motor power is finely adjustable almost completely eliminating micro-vibrations from the motor unit.

The motor suspension has been fine-tuned and a new twin belt drive system has been employed to aid grip and control. A detailed understanding of the metallurgic requirements of moving components has resulted in the refinement of the bearing system to self-lubricate and spin freely, but eliminate unwanted movement.

The Acutus Reference is a rare jewel of precision engineering. The age old adage of ‘getting what you pay for’ is no more evident than in this superlative turntable.
